The service specialises in the analysis of organic matter in water, including Total Carbon (TC) in its particulate and dissolved fractions, an essential parameter for water quality control (e.g. RD 3/2023). To this end, it is equipped with a Shimadzu TOC-L CSH analyser, capable of determining total carbon (TC), inorganic carbon (IC) and non-purgeable organic carbon (NPOC) in aqueous matrices (TC, TOC, TIC, DOC, DIC), following standardised protocols approved under the European Union Water Framework Directive.
This analyser allows us to measure environmentally relevant concentrations (from 0 to 30,000 mg/L; with a detection limit down to 4 µg/L), depending on whether low- or high-sensitivity mode is used.
