Research group: Groundwater and Hydrogeochemistry
Laura Martínez Pérez graduated in Geology at the University of Zaragoza. She later specialized in Environmental Geology, GIS and Remote Sensing. After working in an environmental consulting, she moved to Barcelona to start her PhD in geosciences at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). She is member of the Subterranean Hydrogeology Group (GHS) that belongs to the Geosciences department of the Institute of Environmental Assesment and Water Research and the UPC. Her research deals with reactive transport processes in porous media under an experimental approach. During her PhD, she has developed new experimental devices to characterize changes in transport properties of rocks due to dissolution with acid brines and to evaluate the sorption behaviour of radioactive tracers in coastal aquifers. She has also worked on the equipment and construction of an experimental site located at the Maresme coast to study seawater intrusion (SWI) in coastal aquifers and submarine groundwater discharge (SGD).
