My research focuses on water-rock interaction and interface mineralogy at several levels: mineral dissolution/precipitation kinetics (clays, sulfides, phosphates); cation exchange reactions (zeolites); organic/Inorganic adsorption reactions (illite, kaolinite); metal and metaloid mobilization in AMD effluents; calcite passivation in AMD remediation treatments; degradation of concrete and cementitious compounds; Monte Carlo modeling of mineral dissolution; denitrification processes mediated by bacteria-pyrite surface; applications for soil remediation and contaminated water; nano-, micro- and field-scale experiments. Geological storage of CO2: interaction between CO2-rich waters and reservoir/cap rocks and concrete; bioreduction of Fe(III)-oxides; reactive transport modeling: coupling kinetic laws of heterogeneous reactions to transport equations; applications for toxic waste remediation (contaminated soils, polluted groundwater, AMD), cement-water interactions, geological CO2 sequestration, sea tailings disposal.
