The CSIC and the Consorci d’Aigües Costa Brava Girona sign a collaboration agreement to develop research projects

9 March 2021

The CSIC, through the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA), together with the Consorci d’Aigües Costa Brava Girona, have signed a collaboration agreement to develop research projects in the field of treatment, quality monitoring and management of water. The aim is to implement joint research programs and exchange information related to the management of drinking water, wastewater and/or regenerated water.

The agreement sets the guidelines and principles for the coordination of the two institutions in activities related to scientific research and technological development, as well as the willingness for mutual advice and information exchange, in order to improve the water treatment processes, water quality monitoring, and innovations in the field of detection and characterization of pollutants.

The IDAEA researcher Jesús Carrera from the Groundwater and Hydrogeochemistry group, and Silvia Díaz from the Water, Environmental and Food Chemistry (ENFOCHEM) group, coordinate several projects included in this collaboration agreements, such as RESTORA, MARADENTRO and ROUSSEAU. “Ensuring access to high-quality water to irrigate crops for human consumption, for drinking water and for increasing groundwater reserves is key to fight global change”, explains Silvia Díaz.

This framework agreement will be operational for four years, with the possibility of obtaining an extension.
