In its sixth edition, the IDAEA Young Researchers’ Day gathered 38 predoctoral researchers to present their current work to all the IDAEA staff. This year’s program featured 20 oral communications and 18 flash-talk presentations.

A total of 122 members of the IDAEA scientific community, including postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and principal investigators, attended the event. The main goal of the Young Researchers’ Day remains fostering knowledge exchange across the different departments of the research center. Each year, the event sparks new collaborations among researchers, who use the occasion to connect and create synergies for their respective projects.

During the day, the researcher Ryan Armstrong, from the University of Barcelona, conducted the workshop “Mental health and wellbeing”, aimed at the IDAEA predoctoral researchers.

The event also featured four awards for the best communications:

  • Best oral presentation by the Scientific Committee: Marianda Aretaki (Geochemistry and Pollution) for “Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon and Black Carbon Concentrations and Sources: A Case Study in Primary Schools and Homes in Barcelona”.
  • Best oral presentation by the public: Lyen Castro (ONHEALTH) for “High-throughput effect-directed analysis of thyroid hormone-disrupting compounds in Swedish stormwater ponds”.
  • Best flash-talk by the Scientific Committee: Albert Egea (EGAR) for “Modelling the Impact of Insect Herbivory on CO2 Fluxes in a Subarctic Mountain Birch Forest”.
  • Best flash-talk by the public: Albert Pina (ONHEALTH) for “Multi-Suspect Screening of Polar and Nonpolar Marine Biotoxins Using a Tandem SPE and Dual-Column LC-HRMS Approach”.
