16 May 2025. Today, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) and the Wuhan Institute of Industrial Innovation and Development (WHIIID). The ceremony was attended by Ethel Eljarrat, Director of IDAEA, and Li Xiling and Wang Huizhong, President and Deputy President of WHIIID, who formalised the agreement establishing the foundations for a long-term strategic partnership in the fields of scientific innovation and industrial development.

The signing took place during a meeting that included several researchers from different groups within IDAEA, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to this new stage of international collaboration. The WHIIID delegation consisted of 13 members, including professors, ministers, and representatives from different centers within WHIIID, who highlighted the significance of this alliance to promote scientific advancement and technological modernisation in both countries.

“This agreement represents a unique opportunity to strengthen scientific collaboration between Spain and China in critical areas for the transition towards a more sustainable and technologically advanced industrial model”, emphasises Joan O. Grimalt, researcher at IDAEA and a key promoter of this agreement.

The agreement focuses on four main pillars:

  • Research and strategic consultancy

  • Talent exchange and training

  • Industrial cooperation and internationalisation

  • Organisation of exchange activities

Through this partnership, IDAEA-CSIC and the Wuhan Institute of Industrial Innovation and Development join forces to promote innovation and sustainability, recognising the importance of international collaboration in facing global challenges.
