Barcelona City Council and the CSIC Delegation in Catalonia are launching this October the programme Ciència Km 0, a new series of activities designed to bring science closer to the city’s neighbourhoods, especially in areas where free public science outreach is limited or non-existent. The programme is organised in collaboration with Barcelona’s network of civic centres and libraries, and is aimed at adults and young people over 16, as part of a clear commitment to promoting lifelong science education.
The programme will include workshops, talks, round tables and guided tours, led by researchers involved in projects funded by Barcelona City Council as well as staff from the various CSIC centres in Catalonia.
The ten activities have been co-created by the two institutions and revolve around three main themes: disruptive technologies, pollution and health. For example, the programme will explore the role of microchips in everyday technology, the impact of air quality on health, or how urban green spaces can generate wellbeing benefits through biodiversity conservation and water retention.
The activities will run from Wednesday 8 October to 10 December, always on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Below is the full schedule, with the two talks by IDAEA researchers highlighted:
