24th October, Global Climate Action Day

24 October 2020

Organized by 350.org since 2009, this day reminds us how to act against climate change. This phenomenon is being affecting us mainly since the decade of the 50s, when we started seeing those effects on warmer temperature. On this day, every year people make walks, marches, rallies, bike rides, sing-a-thons, carbon-free dinners, tree plantings, and so on.

From the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA), we study the climate change effects and how to understand it.  Our environmental science institute is devoted to the study of the footprint of the chemical changes our species is imposing on the biosphere, especially centred on two of the great environmental challenges of our time, namely the cleanliness and availability of the water we drink and the quality of the air we breathe.

This year is special as we are being affected by Covid-19. We have been seeing and decrease of use of single-use plastics and gas emissions during March and April. However, this is increasing in a sudden.

Climate change influences everything, but can still try to stop it.
