Centre de Recherches et des Technologies des Eaux - CERTE

The “Centre de Recherches et Technologies des Eaux, CERTE” was created in 2005 from the evolution of the "Institut National de Recherche Scientifique et Technique" instituted in 1983 to four research centres. CERTE is one component of the Borj Cedria technopark. Today, CERTE is composed by three research laboratories:

  • Wastewater treatment and recycling
  • Geo-resources and
  • natural water treatment.

The total staff of CERTE is 153 (2010) with 89 researchers and engineers. The main goal of CERTE is to carry activities on researches development and innovative technologies in water fields and to integrate the obtained results at the economic and social levels. CERTE has developed high expertise in sustainable water management especially in:

  • treatment recycling and valorisation of urban and industrial wastewater,
  • local water management for a multi-use of water,
  • innovative and performing tools/technologies for sustainable water management (SWM).

CERTE team involved in this proposal developed in these items national and international cooperation activities, as European projects, bilateral projects and contracts with the Tunisian Institutions. He participated to 5 projects funded by EU and dealing about water scarcity and water management: ERAWIDE project N° 566609, Capacity building for direct water reuse, CBWRMED, 2010-2012; Meda-Water ME8/AIDCO/2001/0515/59768 ZERO-M “Sustainable concepts towards a zero outflow municipality”, (2003-2009); Project INCO-MPC PL015410: ELMAA: Integrated water management of Mediterranean phosphate mining and local agricultural systems, (2005-2008); Project INCODC IC18CT980267, Integrated Wastewater Reuse by solar-Catalytic Treatment: A pilot Study in the Textile Industry, (1998 – 2001); Project AVI*-CT94-0007, Purification and recycling of waste water by solar catalytic and biological treatment in Algeria, Syria and Tunisia, (1995-1997).
