The Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) is seeking a postdoctoral candidate to apply for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026 call.
The proposed research should focus on the development and/or application of advanced chemometric, data analysis, and computational methods to address research questions in environmental and omics sciences. Potential research directions include, but are not limited to:
- New methodologies and algorithms for Multivariate Curve Resolution (MCR), including new constraints, optimization strategies, uncertainty assessment, and extensions to complex datasets.
- Explainable AI for chemical and environmental data, including XAI-based variable selection and feature identification.
- Real-time analysis of environmental sensor and analytical data streams, including adaptive data analysis, anomaly detection, and data-driven approaches for environmental digital twins.
- Advanced data analysis and integration methods for bulk and spatial multi-omics, including spatial pattern discovery and integration of complementary molecular layers.
- Data-driven approaches to environmental and omics research, including complex mixtures, pollution sources, environmental processes, and biological responses to environmental stressors.
These research directions are intended to provide a broad scientific and methodological framework rather than define a predetermined project. Applicants are encouraged to propose original research ideas that complement and expand the expertise of the host group. The final MSCA-PF proposal will be co-developed with the selected candidate to define an ambitious, innovative, and feasible research project with a strong methodological component and clear environmental or omics applications.
What do we look for?
- Qualifications
PhD in chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemometrics, environmental sciences, bioinformatics, data science, computer science, or a related field.
- Professional experience
Experience in data analysis, computational methods, chemometrics, machine learning, omics data analysis, environmental data analysis, or related areas. Experience in one or more of the proposed research directions will be considered an asset.
- Competences
Strong analytical and computational skills, including experience in scientific programming and data analysis. Ability to work independently, develop original research ideas, and collaborate in interdisciplinary research environments. Interest in methodological development and its application to environmental or omics research. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Eligibility
Applicants must comply with the eligibility and mobility rules of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026 call, including the requirements concerning research experience after the PhD and transnational mobility.

In particular, candidates must hold a PhD degree by the call deadline; have a maximum of 8 years of research experience, and comply with MSCA PF Mobility Rule, available in the “2.3.2. Recruited researchers” section of the Work Programme MSCA 2026-2027
Fellowship and timeline
- Contract duration: expected 24 months, according to the MSCA European Fellowship scheme and the final proposal design.
- Target start date: summer 2027, subject to evaluation outcome and grant agreement preparation.
