Water Innovation Europe 2014

WssTP is hosting the 2014 edition of Water Innovation Europe, dedicated to the theme ''Water: Green Tape or Blue Gold?''. The conference will focus its attention on the economic opportunities for the European water sector and on ensuring a strong representation of water issues in the Horizon2020 work  programme 2016-2017, along the lines of the Green growth and economy. WssTP conference will be held on 25 and 26 of June 2014 at the Diamant Centre in Brussels.

The Water-Energy-Food Nexus at FAO

FAO officers met with other experts at the conference "Sustainability in the Water-Energy-Food Nexus. Synergies and Tradeoffs: Governance and Tools at various Scales" on 19-20 May 2014 in Bonn, Germany. The conference addressed the linkages across key natural resource sectors, so that jointly improving efficiency is considered to be a win-win strategy for human development and environmental sustainability.

As power networks and, to a certain extent, oil and gas infrastructure both upstream and downstream, are becoming increasingly integrated with information communication technology systems, they are growing more susceptible to cyber attacks.

Workshop on Earth Observations and the Water-Energy-Food Nexus

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) hosted the Workshop on Earth Observations (EO) and the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus. Participants discussed: examples of EO contributions to WEF nexus assessments; information needs of WEF policy-makers; gaps in monitoring information and services that could be addressed by EO; and development of a synthesis report on the state of EO applications to WEF issues.

Water Policy in Algeria, by Dr. Nadjib Drouiche

Talking about Water Policy in Algeria is of high priority. It is increasingly concerned due to climate change, known for its great diversity and its spatial and temporal irregularity. Due to its geographical location, Algeria has an arid and semi-arid climate which brings with it higher risk of both floods and droughts, and exacerbates the already precarious situation created by chronic water scarcity faced by most of the Arab countries.
